High Falls State Park
October 10, 2010
This state park is between Atlanta and Macon Georgia on Interstate Highway 75. Until they change the link to their map page, this link will work.
.

In the early 1800s, High Falls was the site of a prosperous industrial town with stores, a grist mill, cotton gin, blacksmith shop, shoe factory and hotel. In the late 1800's it was bypassed by a main railroad and slowly grew into a ghost town. It is a beautiful Georgia State Park where visitors can enjoy the scenic waterfall on the Towaliga River and hike to the remaining grist mill foundation. There is a campground, some picnic areas and a canoe rental at the lake.

High Falls Lake (The lake behind the dam) is one of the best largemouth bass-fishing lakes in Georgia. It is also home to channel catfish, flathead catfish, striped bass, crappie, Bluegill, redear (shellcracker) and bream. There may be some striped bass and hybrids because they were stocked in the lake until 2006.

These signs were everywhere near the water. That word fatal made sure we didn't venture out onto the rocks.

Old Powerhouse water outlet.
This sign was almost impossible to read. These are some of the mill stones from the old Grist mill. In the left corner, there is another one of those fatal warning signs.
Not enough room on this rock.
I'm paddling as fast as I can but this boat won't go anywhere!
He was swimming beneath the water.
Can you find the fish? Still can't find him? Here he is.
We just liked the turtles sunning themselves.
