Chamizal National Memorial is in El Paso, TX. Look up the treaty of 1963 between the US and Mexico.
Monument reads: Boundary of the United States Treaty of 1840 Re-established by treaties of 1884-1889.
The Rio Grande River kept overflowing its banks and changing its course. The treaty said that the US was on the North side of the river and Mexico was on the other. When the river changed course (many times) sometimes people's houses would be in Mexico and sometimes in the US. The treaty of 1963 decided exactly where the river would be cementing it in a chanel decided on in the treaty. Look it up on the web. This treaty in 1963 was one of the things President Kennedy is remembered for .http://www.nps.gov/cham/ Now they have free concerts here on the grounds.
One of the types of yucca found in the area.
I took this driving Loop Trail twice because it was so beautiful.
